AIR CLEANERS
When installing an air cleaner in an HVAC system, an HVAC technician can assess your system, determine if it's compatible, and recommend the right type of air cleaner. The installation process may involve:
-
Location
Air cleaners are usually installed on the opposite side of the air handler from the HVAC filter.
-
Ductwork
The supply plenum may need to be partially dismantled, resized, or rebuilt to accommodate the air cleaner.
-
Electrical connections
Some air cleaners require electricity and may need to be connected to the HVAC system's electrical supply.
-
Sealing
The technician will ensure that everything is tightly sealed to prevent air leaks.
-
Testing and calibration
The technician will test the system to ensure it's functioning properly and calibrate the air purifier.
Here are some other things to consider about air cleaners:
-
Clean air delivery rate (CADR)
The CADR measures the volume of filtered air an air cleaner produces per minute. The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) recommends a CADR that's at least 2/3 of a room's area.
-
Air quality
Air cleaners can remove up to 99% of dust, allergens, and particles from your home. This can help reduce the spread of bacteria and viruses, and mitigate the effects of allergens.
